Winter '24/25 Warcry Stats Show
Welcome to the Autumn/Winter 2024 Warcry Metawatch powered by Wartally. Wartally's Q4 Meta Report is out and the year is over so today we are looking at the competitive game Win Loss stats since both the big April Warcry Update and the September Update. For a full explanation of the data and why it is the way it is (and I really urge you to do that... there are some interesting Hot Takes in there) you can check out the full video here:
ATTENTION! These numbers come from all games registered in Wartally in the last 2 quarters. To make up for the relatively low amount of games of some factions skewing the data, I have not shown figures for any faction with less then 1% participation (usually somewhere in the region of 30-40 games). Additionally, due to the non-availability of data; some events have been removed and/or manipulated due to non-standard scoring or rankings.
Global Winrates
Overall Global Win-Rates |
The top end of the meta is dominated by Skaven and Slaanesh Sybarites. In Skaven's case this is largely due to the recent release of the new Rat Ogres from the September update and for Slaanesh Sybarites, there have been a few very good, very dedicated players doing well and showcasing the upper levels of play with Vexmor, Slakeslash and Homonculus bringing in numbers.
The nerfs from earlier in the year have not seemed to affect Nurgle Daemons or Kharadron Overlord players in a major way with both still benefiting from their very good chaff that can form as build-around cores for other allies.
Ogor Mawtribe winrates are still strong thanks to both their ability to put alot of damage on the field whilst still fielding numbers thanks to their Gnoblars.
Overall we are still in a largely semi-elite smashy meta which holds down more elite or midrange warbands thanks to the prevalence of high damage pieces such as Gutlords and Vexmor. Those other warband archetypes that have been doing well could be thought of as hard counters to these pieces with large numbers, nets, and control proving to work into those fighters. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a resurgence of larger warbands going into the new year.
Global Winrates and Popularity |
SBGL remain the most popular warband for players despite the hits they took in the April and September updates followed by VFS (one of the best one-box bespoke warbands) and Kruleboyz (Readily available through the previous AoS boxes).
Podium Results
Podium Placings |
Looking at the podium results, Ironjawz, despite their 49% winrate actually have the highest amount of wins with 7 podium placings and 9 3-1 or better wins. You see a similar story with Soulblight Gravelords who despite the 49.5% global winrate also give high levels of podium placings. Given that SBGL have twice the amount of participation as IJ, this probably means that at the top end of play, Ironjawz are putting forward an overall more consistent list and strategies into this meta; This makes sense given the presence of powerful single target control tools in Shield Bash AND anti-horde abilities in You Messin', combined with a very good battle trait, internal damage and overall good stats in a not too small total warband size.
During our overview of the current meta, Toast and I discussed the possibility of IJ becoming a gatekeeper faction to the podium and it looks like the ceiling of the warband is incredibly high for those players wishing to concentrate on that area of play.

Ally Popularity
Ally Popularity by % Taken per Grand Alliance |
Order Allies seem healthy with the most popular ally only being taken 12% of the time. Cyrenai's strong control ability and overall relatively inexpensive body has made her a popular pick this quarter over Q3.
Deintalos has seen a resurgence in death with his electric zombies being some of the more interesting Bladeborn to build around and his overall solid stats and S6 ranged attack action makes for a decent secondary fighter. The Knight of Shrouds has knocked the Wielder of the Blade off the podium for Nighthaunt hero of choice. I still think that pretty much every Death warband will want to bring a NH hero for the global resurrect and NH now have alot of solid choices.
It's expected that pretty every Destruction warband would want a Brute Boss in there to get the very powerful You Messin' ability, and the Clawback provides fast, explosive damage on a more bulky body then the low toughness would otherwise suggest. If GW were looking to make cuts here it would probably involve increasing the cost of the Brute Boss and Clawback to make them less efficient as allies but also decreasing the cost of the Gorger Mawpack as a whole to make sure that they can still field a reasonable number of Gorgers.
For Chaos, Vexmor still dominates with Vex itself taking 23% of the ally slots. At it's price point, it is the premier damage piece in Chaos and the 2" range with movement abilities make it very good at zonal control. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a small hit in the next balance update.
